The $500 booking fee is not extra; it will be credited toward the total cost of your treatment.

  • 2. Assessment and Indications

A clinical assessment, supported by a panoramic radiograph, is necessary to determine the position of the roots.

Upon booking and registering your information, we will send you the radiology order. There is a radiology laboratory in the same medical tower as our clinic where the order will be delivered in 30 minutes.

The maxillofacial specialist will assess and determine if surgery is feasible during the same appointment, taking into account the position of the molars. Molars can grow diagonally or horizontally, preventing them from erupting completely and causing impaction.

    Prompt attention prevents:

Infections: Incomplete eruption can cause pericoronitis (inflammation of the gum), an entry point for bacteria and infections.

Cavities: Difficulty with hygiene due to their posterior location.

Damage to adjacent teeth: They can impact and damage the second molar, even causing root resorption.

Cysts: Tooth retention can lead to cyst formation.

Orthodontic complications: In some cases, they can hinder or interfere with orthodontic treatments.

  • 3. Surgery

Performed by a maxillofacial specialist with the support of a qualified assistant. It can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation.

Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to ensure the procedure is painless, or sedation is available at an additional cost.

Tooth Exposure: If the molar is impacted (covered by bone or gum tissue), an incision is made in the gum (flap), and rotary instruments are used to remove the surrounding bone (ostectomy).

Extraction: The tooth may be sectioned if its roots are widely separated (odontosection) to facilitate its removal.

Suturing: The wound is sutured to ensure proper healing.

  • 4. Suture removal

An appointment is scheduled 8 days after surgery to remove sutures and assess healing. This appointment is already included in your payment.

This is important to prevent complications such as plaque buildup or infection.

Alternatively, absorbable sutures may be used, which take between 1 and 2 weeks to dissolve.
